Something about this whole thing doesn't smell right. It reminds me of the Metallica nonsense when James didn't want Lars and Kirk to listen to songs and do work when he was not there. First, Mike has an absolute right to do whatever he wants, and while all of us simply cannot imagine a DT without him, things go on and I think they can find a good drummer to replace him. But, you have a guy that is with DT, then seems to drum on every other progressive rock band's album out there, takes AX7's drum spot (yes I know it was temporary), goes on Iron Maiden tour and then talks about how he was completely involved in every aspect of DT's website, etc, but then says that HE wants a break. He is a control freak that needs some help letting other people put in the time (his other band members or management) to do what they are paid to do. The other members do not really choose to do a lot of other things in their off time like him-again...no problem. But he is completely burned out, I would probably bet there just might be some problems at home, but then he seems that he wants everyone to stop until he feels enough time has passed until he wants to tour again. As I said, he has the right to do what he wants, but his explanation, or rather his motivation, for leaving DT simply doesn't pass the smell test. I know someone who is a bassist in a very famous band and he tells me that when the kids get older and you cannot trot them around all of the US, problems in bands start to really come to the surface....DT is known for taking the entire family around the US...I think that is what the real problem is.

I've been a fan of DT since FII [which oddly some call the least popular of DT albums except maybe the debut album].

What I wonder if Portnoy considers a band to be prog if they release long tracks and that's all. So if Britney Spears released an album with [let's say] 2 long tracks, is she prog-pop now? :-)

Prog has stretched out from prog to prog-rock, neo-prog, prog-metal, alt-prog, Christain prog, ... Still waiting for prog rap. :-)

Interesting to note in an interview for [I believe] Porcupine TGree's Fear Of A Blank planet, that band head Steven wilson didn't consider the band to be prog. And yet, on their web site in the news, they use the term.

@Trovinho: So much you know about the band. Three members of the band do most of the song writing. The fact that you used the word "gay" to describe Portonoy [who has a wife and 2 kids] tells me that you are homophobic. Stick with your ultra right-wing bashing groups and stay away from here.

Well, I think, that Mr.Portnoy had been asked about his feelings and opinion being support act of Iron Maiden and his answers are quite interesting to me. This must be a real challenge for a musician known as well as Mr.Portnoy and his band-mates.

And the things he said about progessive music in out days are interesting too: I think it is not easy for a musician, playing music you like without selling many records because the taste of most music-consumers is completly different.

It would be nice to see the pogressive progressive progressive side of DT

MP and all, I want to see progressive metal like never before. By all means, please do have those 5/4, 4/4 headbanging moments that are sick, but pleaseeee, have more 11/8, 9/8, hell...even 2349/8 sections.

I want to hear progressive music like BTBAM. I want to hear Dream Theater like they've never been before. Add some old taste to it, add some new taste to it, add some genuine feel.

MP - expand your drum fill collections. I want to be impressed like its christmas all over again. Get a dexterous as possible, so f*cking dexterous that it hurts my brain.

DREAM THEATER WILL LIVE ON, EVEN SHALL DEATH DO THEM PART
