Record Store Recon visits Euclid Records in St. Louis

By Dr. Disc

Goldmine’s secret shopper — who will be known to you only as Dr. Disc — travels extensively and loves to visit record shops during those trips. An avid collector and music lover, the good Doc scopes out shops near and far and grades them on a scale of 1 to 10 in each of five different categories: Stock, Staff, Store, Selection and anything deserving of Special Mention. In this edition of Record Store Recon, Doc pays a visit to Euclid Records in St. Louis.

RecordStoreRecon_9STOCK:
The store contains an amazing selection of used records. You can look through several rolls of used records that have just come into the store, find a large selection of blues and jazz records and spend time looking over the new vinyl and a decent punk selection. Once past that, you will see a collection of used records. The store also stocks CDs.

RecordStoreRecon_9STAFF: The staff is helpful with searches and suggestions. I have found them always willing to look releases up and place an order for it, if they can get it. This includes imports.

RecordStoreRecon_7STORE:
The store is well organized, but the bins are a bit cluttered. Music is always playing in the store. The store has a very good selection of T-shirts, posters, magazines and framed pieces. The store also carries several autographed items that are for sale.

RecordStoreRecon_8SELECTION: The selection is one of the best in the area, but their prices can be a little high on the used vinyl. The new vinyl is priced at a fair price point.

RecordStoreRecon_8SPECIAL MENTION: The store participates in both National Record Store Day and Back to Black Friday. The store also has its own record label and releases 45s. For each 45 sold that Euclid releases, it donates $1 to a charity. Much of the shop’s efforts have benefited the New Orleans Musician Relief Fund, but it also donates to other charities. This location is new for Euclid, which moved here in June 2013, and it is as good as it was in the past location. I have found that Euclid is one of my “must-stops” when in the St. Louis area. The shop’s constant filling of the “Just In” section makes each visit a new adventure. If you are down in New Orleans, stop by Euclid’s second location.
