Toto plans North American tour in honor of band’s 35th anniversary

Toto is hitting the road for the band’s first full North American tour in almost a decade, part of the band’s worldwide excursion in honor of its 35th anniversary.

Toto World Tour 2013 will feature Steve “Luke” Lukather, David Paich, Steve Porcaro on keyboards, Drummer Simon Phillips (The Who, Judas Priest, David Gilmour), bassist Nathan East (Eric Clapton, Stevie Wonder, Phil Collins), and singer Joseph Williams, who sang the hits “Pamela” and “Stop Loving You” on the worldwide platinum release “The Seventh One” (1988). Williams also is featured on the platinum-certified “Fahrenheit” (1986), “Toto XX” (1998) and recorded “Bottom of Your Soul” on “Falling In Between” (2006).

Toto’s lineup has changed a bit since the band’s inception in 1978, but original members David Paich, Steve Lukather and Steve Porcaro remain. The band will mark its 35th anniversary with a North American tour. Publicity photo.

The band will team up with Styx, Kansas and Michael McDonald for a handful of dates. This leg of the tour comes on the heels of a recently concluded, 29-city European tour that included stops in Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, France, Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, Poland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland.

Toto was formed in 1978 by David Hungate (bass), Bobby Kimball (vocals), Steve Lukather (guitar, vocals), David Paich (keyboards, vocals), Jeff Porcaro (drums) and Steve Porcaro (keyboards). The bandmembers had met in high school and at studio sessions in the 1970s, when they became some of the busiest session musicians in the music business.

As individuals, Toto’s members have been involved with an astonishing 5,000 albums that  together account for a half-billion albums sold and more than 200 Grammy nominations. As a group, Toto has sold 35 million albums and left its mark on popular culture, as evidenced by band members’ turns as characters on the animated TV show “South Park”  and a recent comedy sketch about the band’s hit, “Africa,” that featured Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake.
