Peek at still photos for the Jimi Hendrix biopic ‘Jimi: All Is By My Side’

If you’ve been counting the days until the Jimi Hendrix biopic “Jimi: All Is By My Side” arrives in theaters, here’s a little something to help tide you over.

Here’s a link to the trailer (below) as well as a gallery of newly released set photos for the “Jimi: All Is By My Side,” which will see its theatrical release on Sept. 26, 2014. Academy Award winning writer-director John Ridley (“12 Years A Slave”) is behind the project.

Jimi: All Is By My Side trailer

The film covers Hendrix’s life from 1966-67, when the now-legendary guitarist worked as an unknown backup guitarist at New York’s Cheetah Club, then made his mark in London’s music scene and triumphed at the Monterey Pop Festival. “Jimi: All Is By My Side” presents an intimate portrait of Hendrix (portrayed by OutKast’s André Benjamin) on the verge of becoming a rock legend.

“Jimi: All Is By My Side” already made the rounds at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival and 2014 SXSW Film Festival. Curious whether the film will be showing near you? You can check with Fandango for more information closer to the release date.

Benjamin, aka André 3000 of OutKast, turned 39 earlier in 2014. By comparison, Hendrix was age 27 when he died Sept. 18, 1970, in London.

According to the website IMDB.com, the estate of Jimi Hendrix refused to loan the music rights to the film for André Benjamin to perform as Hendrix unless it was allowed full participation in the film’s production.

• Beatles bassist Paul McCartney (played by Ger Duffy)
• Jimi Hendrix Experience bassist Noel Redding (played by Oliver Bennett)
