Strange Weirdos: Music from and Inspired by the Film “Knocked Up”

Grade: ***

Folk-music veteran and progenitor Loudon Wainwright III has never been away for long, with a new album every few years since the beginning of the ?70s.

His legend has grown along with his family tree, as the father of renowned musical artists Rufus Wainwright and Martha Wainwright. With Strange Weirdos, he has again added to his legacy to the pleasure of both Wainwright fans and casual listeners alike.

This is one of those albums that starts very strong and then fades a bit as it goes on, though that?s not to complain about the later tracks. For the most part, this is a solid album. The catchiest song is the opening track, ?Grey in L.A.,? but keep listening, as there?s much beauty both lyrically and musically to be found here.

“Knocked Up” has become the box-office surprise of the season with critical lauds and laudable ticket sales. Hopefully music fans will realize the same should be said about Wainwright?s latest album.
