Malcolm McLaren’s funeral takes place in London

by John Curley—The funeral for punk impresario Malcolm McLaren was held on Thursday, April 22nd, in north London. McLaren died on April 8th of cancer at age 64. McLaren’s former partner, the famed fashion designer Vivienne Westwood, was among the mourners. Also attending were Bob Geldof, Adam Ant, U2’s manager Paul McGuinness, Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook, and the filmmaker and DJ Don Letts. 

McLaren’s coffin had the words “TOO FAST TO LIVE TOO TOUNG TO DIE” on its side. One flower arrangement spelled out the words “Cash For Chaos.” Another was in the shape of the Anarchy symbol. 

The funeral was held at London’s St. Mary Magdelene Church. McLaren was buried at Highgate Cemetery. 

McLaren is best known for his management of the New York Dolls and the Sex Pistols. He also released several albums as a recording artist.
