The B-52s Still A Cosmic Thing

By Carol Anne Szel — The  B-52s gave the music world one of THE catchiest songs ever created — “Love Shack.”  How many of us remember singing that song, loud and with reckless aband back in the day?  “Bang bang. Your what?…. Tin roof, rusted!”

In the decade of the 80s this band produced five albums with a combined total of five times RIAA Platinum and two times RIAA Gold in sales.  And now,  33 years and seven albums later, The B-52s are embarking on a jam packed number of shows this summer taking them literally crisscrossing America as their journey marches on!

Add to that the fact that they are nominated for the Video of the Year award at the 2010 CMT Music Awards Show airing in June! How did that happen you ask?  Turns out the B-52s (who officially dropped the apostrophe from their name of “B-52’s” in 2008) sang a duet with the country band Sugarland at last years CMT awards show and are now nominated for that clip! It exhausts me to even think of all that!

With hits like “Love Shack” and “Roam,” the B-52s have remained true to their identity after all these years.  Hailing from their humble roots in Athens, Georgia, Kate Pierson, Keith Strickland, Cindy Wilson, and Fred Schneider are one of the bands that truly fused the sounds of rock/punk/new age in the 1980s.
