Unofficial England World Cup anthem “Shout For England” tops UK singles chart

by John Curley—“Shout For England,” an unofficial World Cup anthem in support of England’s national soccer team that features rapper Dizzee Rascal and actor/comedian James Corden, is currently topping the UK singles chart. The song is a reworking of Tears For Fears’ massive 1984 single “Shout” and also samples the Bill Withers song “Grandma’s Hands.” The official video for the song can be seen above.

The song is pretty awful, as are most World Cup anthems. But the video does include some great soccer action.

James Corden is currently starring as Smithy in the BBC sitcom Gavin & Stacey. The third series of Gavin & Stacey is now being shown here in the States on BBC America.

Dizzee Rascal was recently interviewed on BBC London radio by Robert Elms. The interview concerned life in London and can be heard at http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/london/hi/things_to_do/newsid_8741000/8741623.stm.
