By Dr. Disc
Address: 641 1st Ave. N, Fargo, ND
Hours: Mon-Sat 11 am-9 pm
STOCK: The store has wall-to-wall posters for sale, including concert bills. Orange Records also carries buttons, stickers, a few shirts, records, CDs, 45s and some magazines. The store also buys used records and CDs and offers a cash or an in-store credit program.
STAFF: I had the opportunity to be there while Matt, the owner, was there. From talking with Matt, that would seem to be on most days at most times. He has owned the store for more than eight years. I also had the opportunity to meet Clyde the shop’s pet dog (below). Matt got the name for the store from a radio show he has been part of on local radio for more than 10 years.
STORE: The store is clean and always has music playing. It’s easy to search through the bins and look for items. Plenty of room to move around.
SELECTION: Orange Records has a very good selection of new vinyl, maybe one of the best in the area, but they are lacking in the used record department. They have a good selection of new and used CDs. The store carries most styles of music with a nice selection of local talent.
SPECIAL MENTION: The store is a full participant in the national Record Store Day. Additionally, the store has bands perform live in the store. Matt tells me that due to their location, they sometimes get national artists to stop by for a visit or a signing. And once your visit is done here you can head over to the chamber office and get a picture with the “official” wood chipper.
