Goldmine Giveaway: Deluxe CD editions of three Kinks albums

One of the most important and influential artists in rock history, The Kinks have been credited by many as the crucial Sixties genesis for everything from heavy metal to garage punk to Britpop. Now the first three albums from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group will be issued in two-CD Deluxe Editions from UMe on April 19, 2011. For the first time, the packages for “Kinks,” “Kinda Kinks” and “The Kink Kontroversy” bring together the original LPs with contemporaneous EPs, BBC performances and alternate, mono, demo and single versions, all remastered from the original tapes.

And Goldmine will be giving away Deluxe CD editions of all three Kinks albums. Today, some opine that The Kinks were instrumental in turning rock ‘n’ roll into rock. Thanks to the added material on their first three albums, and with more Deluxe Editions coming in the near future, that evolution has never been more audible.

Each week, until May 18, Goldmine will give away FIVE SETS of CD-Deluxe Editions The Kinks’ first three albums. So how can you snag one of these goodies, courtesy of Universal Music? It’s easy!

Step 1. Head to Goldmine’s Facebook page (GoldmineMag) and “like” us … OR go to Twitter and “follow” us (@Goldmine_mag). (If you already do either or both of these, skip directly to Step 2!)

Step 2. Comment on this page, and tell us why — gold stars for doing it in 140 characters or less — you want to win that particular Kinks album. Then sit back and wait to win!

  1. This is Klassic Kinks!! Who wouldn’t want to own these musical treasures??! Even at this early stage, Ray Davies’ songwriting was exceptional! God Save The Kinks!

  2. I would love to add the first 3 Kinks albums on Deluxe CD Edition to my extensive collection of the best music in the universe.

  3. Because:

    1. I LOVE The Kinks
    1. It’s on my wishlist
    1. I’m broke right now
    1. “I go to sleep” it’s perhaps the most impressive song ever shelved

Yep, that’s right FOUR NUMER ONE REASONS…

  4. The Kinks were one of the best live bands. Their music is great and they put on an excellent show. I wish they would regroup and tour again.

  5. I have been Krazy about the Kinks for over 45 years! I have a large Kollection of Kinks Klassics but would love to add ‘Kinda Kinks’ to my Kollection! God Save The Kinks!!

  6. I’ve been a Kinks fan since way back–I mean the late 60′s, when I first heard their songs as a kid, up to the 70′s, when I bought their albums as a teenager. Somehow the first albums eluded me, so I never had the first three. Knowing they’ve been reissued, and as deluxe versions, no less–very exciting!!

  7. Anyone would be lucky to own one of these Kinks musical treasures. Especially someone who grew up listening to them and recalling memories during these memorable days!

  8. I had a girlfriend back in 71 at Bard college who owned every Kinks album made, I fell in love with them then and still am. My extensive collection disapeared when someone decided that they needed them more than me.Love to win these three.

  9. Who’ll be the next in line to win? This I know, wish it were me! Come on now, I’m tired of waiting, pick me to win! God Save the Kinks!

  10. The Kinks, live presentation could NEVER be captured on tape. The energy was unbelievable! GREAT SHOW!! Albums and CD’s never reflected this bands’ OUTSTANDING show!!!

  11. Live my life every day with the Kinks. Just can’t get enough of them.
What ever problem you have in life, there’s a Kinks song that will
solve it. God Save The Kinks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. I love the KINKS & have VINYL. Never gota chance to get CDS
as most were available as IMPORTS & DIDNT have the EXTENSIVE BONUS TRACKS that are on the REISSUES.

  13. I certainly want to win the new De-luxe editions of The Kinks.
It’s quite simple: Rock & Roll has backbone. The Beatles may account for 4-vertabra, The Rolling Stones maybe as many as 3, but The Kinks certainly hold their 2,…with The Sex Pistols being the tip of the talebone!

    “Quit whinnin’, and Subscribe!”.

  14. Ray Davies was as perfect a chronicler of Britain in the ’60′s as any poet of the time. And these 3 Cd’s are the first evidence of just how great a songsmith he was going to be. Gotta own these!!

  15. I have invested my money and the majority of my soul into into the previous “deluxe edition” that came out a few years. I feel if anhyone should get a free “New Deluxe Editions” to see how thw other half lives. Now I got stop those nasty Georgia Tech payments for my daughter, buy hey she’ll get over it, right? She might forgive me maybe even tonight as I listen to Percy for the 25th time,,God knows I need More,,,,GOTTA HAVE MORE,,,MUST GET KINKY!!! MUST CONTINUE MY ROCK ‘N’ROLL FANTASY with LOLA AND THE APEMAN oh God I wish I could buy like Superman….

  16. Love the kinks had em all and someone wanted them more than me. I hate low lifes. Would love to replace them.

  17. “Kinda Kinks” was and is just a great Rock and Roll album. What other reasons could I come up with other than that they are no longer in my collection cause some low life stole my collection about 20 years ago and I never found this one to replace.

  18. I got to see the m live…what a show…and great music through the decades

  19. You Really Got Me All Day and All of the Night. A Well Respected Man and Dedicated Follower of Fashion, I am Free Sittin’ on My Sofa When I See That Girl of Mine. People Take Pictures of Each Other on the Village Green. Do You Remember Walter? You Can’t Win. (But I would love to. Who doesn’t need to get more Kinky)

  20. Why the Kinks?
    They’re underrated, they’re often hated.
Most people feel they’re very out-dated.
They even believe their music’s a bore.
But I, myself, find them hard to ignore!

    GOD SAVE THE KINKS!

  21. the Kinks deluxe CD giveaway is a great way to place some of the best music ever written – and never sufficiently heard – into the hands of someone who can truly appreciate it … me!

  22. I remember as a young boy seeing the Kinks perform “You really Got Me” at a shopping center in the Sacramento, CA. area. I would like to win the album because I’m a Kinks fan. Thanks.

  23. I have been a Kinks fan since the 70′s. To me they are the epitomy of English rock. This album is a perfect example of how Ray can look at everyday situations and turn them into endearing rock ballads. I would love to win this extended version!

  24. “Kink Kontroversy” is the transitional album between their 1st golden “hard rock” era and the upcoming “social commentary” era (heralded by “Face to Face”). “Dedicated Follower of Fashion” and “Well Respected Man’ signal the evolution of Ray’s writing style and clearly show that he (and Dave) were much more than three chord wonders. A great album made even better with the bonus disc.

  25. I’ve refrained from trying to win the previous two albums because this is the one I really want. It points the way to the glorious period ahead for my favorite band of the ’60s. Some of their finest moments are here!

  26. I have always loved the Kinks music and I also love Goldmine magazine! So, participating in a Goldmine giveaway to win any Kinks CD makes me feel good! Even if I don’t win I like supporting Goldmine!

  27. So many reasons to love the Kinks. Ray Davies is one of the best singer-songwriters to date, and I have always believed that the Kinks music was under-appreciated. Even in this early music, when they were just teens, their music was so relevant and continues to be timeless. God Save the Kinks!!!

  28. I want to win these albums. I remember listening to the Kinks’ Kinks and Kinda Kinks during my carefree youth. Sadly those albums disappeared with my youth. It would be great to listen to these albums again.

  29. The Kinks have always been a fave….Part of the British Invasion, but oh so different than the rest….intelligent, witty and rockin’ – who would not want a piece of this !!

  30. Tsk…CD reissues? It’s all about viny these days no? Sonic Youth! Dya hear? This is some sexy, sensuous, innocent lost kind of sound that you can now see spinning extremely provacatively on your turntable. FYI orgmusic.com is sort of my hero. They got the replacements, too! That kinda heat oughta melt that chilly minnesota snow.

  31. i may not be jack jack the idiot dunce and i do not have ducks on the wall but i sure could use some old good time rock and roll to help get out the kinks in this down economy bloak.
went thru a major kinks stage in my early 20s lets do it again
    thx mark

  32. The Kinks are my fourth favorite band behind the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and the Who. Gotta have the re-issues!

  33. I am a loyal Kinks fan and deserve to win these great reissues because I stayed with them & put up with the less than stellar 80′s stuff that they put out. A true fan never gives up, just learns to hide the ugly ones.

  34. It’s the Kinks! The band that invented fuzztone, fer cryin’ out loud. That’s why I want these albums–plus, the new editions have more songs than ever! Gimme the fuzz, jack! Lemme win!

  35. The Kinks are a great example of the British Invasion. With great singles like “You Really Got Me”, you really got to love the Kinks!

  36. The Kinks are 1 of my favorite band first the Beatles, Kinks,Hollies,Queen…a big pity didnt watch them live…or visiting my country(Argentina)…at last as promo gig…

  37. This is the only website that I know that offers music CD/DVD collections of the greatest artists of pop, rock’n'roll, etc as contests and giveaways.

  38. The Kinks are a band that plays some classic Rock and Roll. I dig their music and I can always hope that Reprise or maybe Sundazed will release their first five American Albums on both vinyl and on compact disc. That would be groovy. I would like to see them all released in stereo which I like. “You Really Got Me”,”All Day and All of the Night”, “Tired of Waiting For You”, “Set Me Free”, “A Well Respected Man”, “Who’ll Be the Next In Line”, “See My Friends”, “I Need You”, and “Till The End Of The Day” never sounded any better in true stereo once you hear it in stereo.

  39. I’m Not Like Everyone Else. I’m A Well Respected Man. Everybody’s Gonna Be Happy. Take Till The End Of The Day. Come On Now…Before It’s Too Late. I Will Love You Forever

  40. I grew up with the Kinks, had the albums and then lost them all to theft! I would love to hear these songs again, and share this all with my grandchildren. To Teach them were the Rock n’ Roll came from. To teach them to appreciate where I came from.

  41. I sure wish I had known bout this earlier. I only found out today when I rec’d mt August issue in the mail. Maybe next time.
