The Tangent has managed to reinvent itself so many times that it’s hard to count all the people who have been in it. But every lineup has succeeded in delivering top-class progressive rock music, usually far more on target than many of the re-formed “big-name” bands from the ’70s. The Tangent’s six studio albums for InsideOut Music are a strong testament to that claim, and anyone whose heart was won over by “Foxtrot” but was deeply disappointed by “We Can’t Dance” should look at this remarkable band from England who have persisted in making the difficult musical choices and keeping true to Prog Rock’s original spirit while keeping it fresh and relevant to now.
“COMM” is an album with a theme about modern communications. There are mentions of the sinking of the Titanic (almost 100 years ago) which Tillison feels is a very important moment in the history of communications.
The album took two years to write and record. The cover artwork marks a return to the popular partnership between The Tangent and Belarussian artist Ed Unitsky. “COMM” will be released in three editions, including a special edition with two bonus tracks (one of which is an unusual cover version), which will be released in a limited first pressing digipak edition, and a limited 180-gram vinyl edition with a gatefold sleeve.
