Classical Music hits another crescendo with records sold on eBay in July, 2015 (and, of course, Beatles records made their presence known again). Here is a list of the biggies sold:

There is not a warp in the record. It is perfectly flat. The reflection from the round neon light may make it appear warped (to some), but it is not.

Beatles-PleasePleaseMe

4. The Beatles — “Please Please Me”
Sold For: $6,946.00 (Best offer accepted)
Listed As: “The Beatles Please Please Me 1ST Stereo Gold Parlophone PCS 3042 UK”
Genre: Rock, Pop
Record Label: Parlophone (PCS 3042)
Country/Region of Manufacture: U.K.
Release Year: 1963
Format: (12-Inch) 33rpm
Special Attributes: Stereo, Gold Label, Dick James Credits
Record Grading: Side 1: EX+ and Side 2: VG+
Sleeve Grading: Described below
Seller: Off The Beaten Tracks Records
Seller’s Comments: VERY FIRST UK GOLD – STEREO PRESS with “Dick James ” Credits. This Parlophone STEREO GOLD label is the one. Matrix Side 1: YEX 94-1
Matrix Side 2: YEX 95-1 STAMPERS:  1R on side one & 1G on side two : THESE ARE REVERSE STAMPERS AS THEY ARE USUALLY 1G/1R! FOR A MORE DETAILED NOTE ON THIS PLEASE SEE a very useful guide here http://www.beatlebay.co.uk/stereo.html THE HEAVY WEIGHT VINYL IS ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS, LOOKS HARDLY PLAYED AND SOUNDS GREAT!! SIDE ONE LOOKS ALMOST PERFECT AND IS EASILY GRADED AS EX+ . SIDE TWO ALSO LOOKS GREAT ALTHOUGH THERE ARE A COUPLE OF HAIRLINE SURFACE MARKS SO I WOULD CONSERVATIVELY GRADE AS VG+. THE GLOSSY VINYL IS PERFECTLY FLAT WITH NO WARPING AND NO WRITING ETC. THE ERNEST J. DAY & CO SLEEVE IS VERY CLEAN AND COMPLETE WITH NO TEARS TO THE FOLDOVERS. THERE IS VERY SLIGHT SCUFFING TO THE BOTTOM LEFT AND RIGHT CORNERS . THE EMITEX “MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN” INNER IS PRESENT AND IS IN A NEAR MINT SUPERB CONDITION BEARING THE FIRST “PATENTS APPLIED FOR” WORDING TOO.
WITH ONLY A VERY LIMITED NUMBER OF COPIES TO HAVE BEEN PRODUCED AT THE VERY BEGINNING, THESE GOLD ALBUMS WERE USUALLY ALWAYS PLAYED TO DEATH BY 1964!. FINDING ONE IN VERY GOOD CONDITION OR HIGHER IS BECOMING MORE DIFFICULT AND THIS PARTICULAR COPY IS IN A VERY VERY COLLECTABLE SHAPE. THIS HAS OBVIOUSLY BEEN WELL LOOKED AFTER AS IF THE BUYER KNEW THIS WOULD BE WORTH ITS WEIGHT IN GOLD ONE DAY.
THE GOLD LABELS ARE CLEAR AND BRIGHT WITH NO SPINDLE MARKS AND HARDLY ANY WEAR TO THE HOLES AT ALL!. THIS IS A RARE OPPORTUNITY TO ACQUIRE ONE OF THE MOST COLLECTABLE BEATLES ALBUM OF ALL TIME.
The record has been in the hands of 1 owner (who I’m selling on behalf of) all this time who bought it at WH Smith (franchised to International Stores) in Waller Street Luton purchased in Spring of 1963. The record was previously listed on here in April but the buyer didn’t pay the full amount of the auction price in the time Ebay allows, thus the item has again been listed here so please ONLY BUY if you have the funds to back up the purchase. You are welcome to listen to a TEST PLAY of the record recorded in the shop recently on a new Neostar Vinyl Deck turntable here:
http://www.offthebeatentracks.org/test-play-of-the-beatles-please-please-me-1st-stereo-gold-parlophone-pcs-3042-uk/ it sounded fantastic! There is some silence at the start of each side so you can hear the needle contact clearly – this is at 10 seconds on Side 1. You can hear only a very slight crackle in a couple of places. Please note: the slight hum firing up every now and again is that of the turntable to CD recording equipment. Side 2 only seems to have recorded the left channel – I’m not sure why but can assure you it sounded great through both speakers in the shop.

bowie-prettiest

1. David Bowie – “Prettiest Star”
Sold For: $8,000.00 (Best offer accepted)
Listed As: “David Bowie “Prettiest Star” MEGA RARE Japan PROMO Mono 7″ 45”
Genre: Rock, Pop
Record Label: Philips/Nippon Phonogram (SFL-1277)
Country/Region of Manufacture: Japan
Release Year: 1970
Format: Single (7-Inch) 45rpm
Special Attributes: 1st Edition, Mono, Promo
Record Grading: Excellent (EX)
Sleeve Grading: Very Good Plus (VG+)
Seller: KA-CHUNK!! Records
Seller’s Comments: “Record retains it’s original bright shine throughout but does have a handful of surface marks only visible in bright light. Plays GREAT! Cover is a 2 sided picture sheet inside a Japanese rice paper sleeve with Japanese handwriting on the front (of the rice paper sleeve, not the actual insert). Insert has a couple minor creases. With Marc Bolan of T. Rex on Guitar before they overdubbed him on the Aladdin Sane version of the recording. This record is already one of the HOLY GRAILS for David Bowie collectors as a regular Japanese release and this is the PROMO Edition of the holy grail. I’ve searched high and low and I have seen NO instances of the Promo Edition selling online, ever. If you see an old listing where this has sold please let me know! The regular edition sells for around $5,000 and I’ve only seen it come up twice in my research, and again, twice for the regular edition. The Wikipedia page for The Prettiest Star claims the single sold only 800 copies. I’m not sure if that’s worldwide or for a certain region but it speaks to the rarity of any copy of the single. If you Google search “Prettiest Star Japan” you can see one David Bowie discography site that has pictures of this record and certain pressing information, but again, no info on any online sales.. Out Of Print on Philips Records/Nippon Phonogram, 1970 – SFL-1277″
