A little more about The Shaggs:

The Shaggs defined cult status — and then they were gone in a blink of an eye. They were one of rock ‘n’ roll’s biggest oddities.

In E. Fremont, NH, the late ’60s, a working class dad has a vision of rock n’ roll destiny for his three talentless daughters, convinced they’re his family’s one-way ticket out of hardship and obscurity. But the girls have ideas of their own — and as their father’s ambition turns to obsession, the price of familial obligation becomes all too clear.

The band’s only studio album was 1969’s “Philosophy of the World.” The band comprised of sisters Dorothy “Dot” Wiggin (vocals/lead guitar), Betty Wiggin (vocals/rhythm guitar), Helen Wiggin (drums), and later Rachel Wiggin (bass). The band never became more than a popular local act and disbanded in 1975 after the death of their father.

Added information: The musical’s creators Joy Gregory, Gunnar Madsen, and John Langs discuss their 11-year journey with the show, their fascination with the subject matter, and what it’s like to sit and listen to the actual Shaggs (click here).

  1. I have enjoyed the Shaggs’ music since discovering them in the mid-1980s, thanks to NRBQ and Frank Zappa. I appreciate the unfettered honesty of their music and spirit, and I would love to see their story brought to life on stage. I live in Brooklyn and am on vacation between May 28 – June 5, so I could attend any of the shows during that week, although if I have to narrow down my preference, I’d choose a Saturday or Sunday show. All hail Foot Foot!

  2. I would love to win two tickets for my two adult children. I am the youngest of the Shaggs, I played bass in the band. I have told my children about this part of my life. If they could see the Shaggs musical live they would have a much better understanding of that part of my life. We all live in NH, my children could take the bus to NYC if fortunate enough to win the tickets. Thank You.
