fIREHOSE reunites for tour, releases anthology

Members of the three-piece band fIREHOSE will reunite in April 2012 for the group’s first tour dates together since 1994, a move that coincides with a new two-CD anthology.

“lowFLOWs: the columbia anthology (’91-’93) will be available starting April 3. The two-CD, 45-track release features the two original fIREHOSE albums on Columbia Records (“Flyin’ The Flannel” and “Mr. Machinery Operator”), plus 15 tracks of out-of-print and previously unreleased recordings. Selections from “A Matter of Degrees: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack” and “Live Totem Pole” (the band’s EP), “GeNrECidE: A Compilation” and “Big Bottom Pow Wow” promo EP  also are included.

Bassist mike watt, singer-guitarist Ed Crawford and drummer George Hurley’s blend of funk, punk, free jazz and rock and roll captured the sounds of the 1990s. The group took its name from a Bob Dylan lyric on “Subterranean Homesick Blues” (“… better stay away from those that carry  around a firehose …”).
