A screening of the movie “Nowhere Boy” is one of the highlights of this year’s International Records and Comic Book Show of Perpignan, France.
The movie, which is the biographical fictional film about John Lennon, will be shown at the cinema at 9 p.m. Sept. 24. The movie is slated for U.S. release on Oct. 8, 2010, to coincide with what would’ve been John Lennon’s 70th birthday.
The show, called “Le Festival International du Disque et de la Bande Dessineé” in its native French will be held Sept. 25 and 26; this is the 22nd edition of the show. More than 4,000 visitors head into the two-day fair to check out vinyl records, comic books and other popular culture mainstays. This year, there will be 50 stalls featured for music-related exhibitions and 10 stalls related to comic book exhibitions.
The free exhibition “Le FID & BD s’affiche” will showcase 21 years of posters and covers for the festival until Oct. 31, 2010. Each year’s poster has featured a different artist. For 2010, the work of Jean-Claude Denis (above) is featured.
Other exchibitions include: Marie Meier’s “Len Efers Du Rock” (the underworld of rock) photography; Jacques de Loustal’s “Dessins d’ailleurs” (loosely translated “drawings of elsewhere”) original comic book art; François Avril’s comic book art; French rock photographer Richard Bellia’s “Sex and Rock’‘n’ Roll” and Alain Gaschet’s “History of the Bootleg” .
A record fair where enthusiasts can buy and sell vintage records will be held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Ticket prices are 3 euros.
Acoustic bands and DJ Fast Eddy are slated to perform at the fair.
