R.E.M.’s ‘Pageant’ gets richer

Capitol/I.R.S. will release a 25th-anniversary edition of R.E.M.’s “Lifes Rich Pageant” on July 12.

In addition to the digitally remastered original album, the 25th-anniversary edition also will include 19 previously unreleased demo recordings that were cut in Athens, Ga., prior to the album’s studio sessions at John Mellencamp’s facility in Indiana. One of the demo tracks, “Wait,” has never before been officially released by R.E.M. in any form.

Music journalist Parke Puterbaugh has written new liner notes for the two-CD version, which will be packaged in a lift-top box with a poster and four postcards. The remastered original album will be reissued by Mobile Fidelity on 180-gram vinyl.
