Tony Bennett reels in big names for duets disc

Tony Bennett

Tony Bennett is in the process of recording what will become “Tony Bennett: Duets II,” which is scheduled for a Sept. 20 release on RPM/Columbia Records.

Bennett, who turns 85 this year, did some recording in February during Grammy week at the Capitol Records studios in Los Angeles. Follow-up sessions are planned for this spring in New York, Italy and Nashville, Tenn.

Guest artists will be recording their vocals live in the studio with Bennett, and they will include Mariah Carey, Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson, Norah Jones, Carrie Underwood and Amy Winehouse.

“He is generous and warm and gives his partner great solo moments, and then watching the duet come to its climax is thrilling,” said producer Phil Ramone in a statement released March 25.

The “Duets II” sessions are being filmed for a documentary.
