KENNY VS. THRUST
Big Stir (CD)
Genre: Psychedelia
Barbeau has been releasing weirdly wonderful, Robyn Hitchcock-influenced psych pop for close to 30 years, and Kenny Vs. Thrust is one of his stronger efforts. “Land of Economy” is a slightly unstable pop ditty, “Jingle Jangle” does just that (with some pleasantly loud drums and thrown on top), “Clean Clothes in a Dirty Bag” is a pleasantly silly, hyper-catchy singalong, and the nutty “Tidy Up Yourself” ushers in a new musical genre: synth reggae.
