HUNTINGTON, N.Y. — Beatles Butcher covers and rare Rolling Stones promotional items are among the music memorabilia items that will be offered in Just Kids Nostalgia's December auction.

The source of the finds? The basement of a Long Island record store that was a go-to location for music fans for 40 years. It appears the owner never threw anything out, said Just Kids Owner Ken Farrell.

"You cannot get material that’s any fresher to the market than this,” Farrell said. “It’s a great accumulation of seldom-seen promotional material, much of which was only available to commercial stores like this one … never to individuals.”

Two variations of The Rolling Stones' "Sticky Fingers" standups will be featured, along with the banned display from the band's "Black and Blue" album. Promotional pieces featuring Elvis Costello, Jethro Tull, Neil Young, Billy Joel, James Taylor, Bob Dylan, David Bowie and others are also included in the sale, which closes Dec. 13, 2011.

“Tucked away in a dusty corner were a pile of inflatables. After blowing up Led Zeps and Alice Cooper's 'School’s Out' pencil, I needed a break’” Farrell said. “But the fun continued as we hunted down Beatles Butcher covers, autographs and a reel-to-reel tape used to make the Beatles cartoons.”

A small stack of signed material relates to artists including Woody Guthrie, Simon & Garfunkel and Paul McCartney. A smattering of doo-wop, a fan card collection, record posters and a host of small pieces, including pinbacks and promotional materials, also will be featured.

“There’s something here for everybody," Farrell said. "It will be a great opportunity to pick up that holiday present for yourself or for that one person for whom you can never find anything.”

The fully-illustrated auction catalog also will showcase other genres of collectibles, including a Howdy Doody collection, advertising signs, action figures, bubble gum cards, movie posters, premiums and cereal prizes.

The lots will be posted on the Just Kids Web site ( Internet and phone bidding will be available. For additional details, send an e-mail to or call 631-423-8449. A fully illustrated color catalog is also available for $15, payable online or by sending payment to Just Kids Nostalgia at P.O. Box 932, Huntington, NY 11743.
