A remastered and expanded edition of "Elvis Recorded Live on Stage In Memphis" will arrive in a 2-CD set on March 18, 2014, from RCA/Legacy Recordings.
This new edition features concert tracks that were excluded from the original vinyl LP due to the lack of space. The second disc premieres the previously unreleased mono "test run" of the entire concert, which was recorded with a live audience at the Richmond Coliseum on March 18, 1974, two days before Elvis Presley's historic concert return to Memphis, Tenn., where he'd last played live in 1957.
"I wanted to record a live session in my hometown of Memphis," Presley said at the time the concert was recorded. "After all, this is where it all started out for me."
A 24-page booklet filled with rare photographs, previously unseen memorabilia, new liner notes and press clips also is part of the package, which can be ordered via Amazon.com.
Disc 2 also features five tracks — three of which were previously unreleased — that were cut Aug. 16, 1974, at the RCA studios in Hollywood: "Down In The Alley," "Good Time Charlie's Got The Blues," "Softly As I Leave You," "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" and "The Twelfth of Never." The songs were cut to be used as reference recordings for a planned engagement in Las Vegas.
"Elvis Recorded Live on Stage In Memphis" originally was released on vinyl on July 7, 1974. It went on to top the Country charts, and the track "How Great Thou Art" brought Presley his third Grammy (and Gospel) wins. He was backed by musicians James Burton and John Wilkinson (guitar); Charlie Hodge (guitar and vocals); Duke Bardwell (bass); Ronnie Tutt (drums); Glen D. Hardin (piano); The Sweet Inspirations (vocals); J.D. Sumner and The Stamps (vocals); Kathy Westmoreland (vocals) and Joe Guercio and His Orchestra.
The track listings (with * after names of tracks that were excluded from the original vinyl release) are:
