I had the opportunity to speak with Wil Brooks, the store manager, about this very unique “new” record store. The company has a second location in Kansas City.

STOCK: You can find used and new CDs, cassettes, albums and even stereo equipment. Store shirts and band shirts can also be found here and Wil was quick to point out that if you time things right, you may even be able to get your hands on a reel-to-reel player. They also carry cleaning products. The store purchases used records and music-related items. You will find 35,000 to 40,000 used records in the bins at any one time.

STAFF:I found the staff to not only be helpful but very knowledgeable about current and past music topics and bands. I called over the phone and asked if they had something in stock and not only did they tell me but they went and checked and offered to hold it for me.

STORE: This store is clean and bright. No haze of the smell of attic records or a visit to the local head shop. One word can describe this store — and Wil says it best — “massive.” The store is well organized and it’s easy to find what you are looking for, but this is no quick run in, run out store. So much to see, so plan on spending some time here. During special times, you will find a DJ spinning records in the store and live shows.

SELECTION: With more than 15,500 square feet of space, you can imagine a large selection. They carry all styles of music and in most cases have several copies of new releases. They carry local releases. Have a heavy selection of Soul! It’s their goal to make sure they have enough for everyone.

SPECIAL MENTION: Josey Records are now the owners of a record plant and in the near future will be starting their own label.
