Record Store Recon pays a visit to Ragged Records

A high score is given to Ragged Records in Davenport, IA, a record store you can find almost everything and anything music related… and more.

Name:Ragged Records
Address:418 E. 2nd St. Davenport, IA 52801
Hours: Mon-Sat 10 a.m.- 5 p.m.

STOCK: You can find almost everything and anything music related here… and more. This store shares space with a vintage clothing store that has some amazing items and great prices, maybe time to “pop some tags.” You will find on most days over 8,500 new LPs and 15,000-20,000 used LPs. They stock used CDs, 45s, 78s, t-shirts and posters and some nice vintage stereo equipment. The only thing they don’t stock is new CDs. The store also stocks local “talent.”

STAFF: On the day that I was there I had the opportunity to meet the owner, Bob Herington. He informed me that the store had been at this location for over six years now and that people come from all over the U.S. to visit his store because of the large selection. “It’s one of the pluses to being in Davenport over places like Chicago, New York or L.A. You could not afford to have a location this big in a major city like that.” Bob knows his music and was happy to help me search for some items and share his local music knowledge.

STORE: This is another example of very organized chaos, meant in a very good way. There is just so much to look at. If you are going, you owe it to yourself to allow two-plus hours just to look through all of the bins. This store reminds me of the classic stores from the past. Wish we had a store like this in my town!

SELECTION: I found almost everything I was looking for. The selection is great and the prices are very fair. They have a great Rock section and a nice-sized selection of new and used Punk. You can find pretty much every type of music out there, and Bob knows his inventory.

SPECIAL MENTION: The store participates in RSD with live bands and sales. The store hosts live music throughout the year. One last thing that impressed me about Bob was that he never spoke badly about his competition. Hell, he even made suggestions on other stores I should check out. Check them out and tell them that Dr. Disc sent you.
