• “We Are The World” did not immediately go to #1 in the U.S. It first reached the Billboard Hot 100 at #21 on March 23, 1985. Still, that represented the highest debut chart position for a single since John Lennon’s “Imagine.” In three weeks, it climbed all the way to #1.

• As of 2009, “We Are The World” has sold more than 20 million units and raised more than $63 million for humanitarian aid in Africa and the U.S.

• The song received a number of honors, including three Grammy Awards, one American Music Award and a People’s Choice Award.

• “We Are The World” was the first single to be certified multi-platinum.
