Linda Ronstadt announces addition to Library of Congress, to coincide with reissue of Greatest Hits albums on high quality vinyl

Linda Ronstadt announced that "Canciones de Mi Padre" will be one of 25 recordings that will be added to the Library of Congress National Recording Registry. And Linda Ronstadt’s Greatest Hits albums, reissued on 180gram vinyl with special textured jackets, have been released this year, before her second autobiography due out October 4.
Canciones de Mi Padre

Linda Ronstadt's "Canciones de Mi Padre" is one of 25 recordings that will be added to the Library of Congress National Recording Registry. Ronstadt's 1987 album is honored based on the cultural, historical, or aesthetic importance to the nation's recorded sound heritage. "Even when she was working mainly with the genres of country, rock, and pop, Linda Ronstadt often referenced her Mexican-American roots," stated the Library of Congress.

"Canciones de Mi Padre" quickly went double platinum upon its release, and earned Linda the Grammy for Best Mexican/Mexican-American album.

In other news, out now are Linda Ronstadt’s Greatest Hits Vol. 1 and Greatest Hits Vol. 2, reissued on 180gram vinyl, both with a special textured jacket. The Rhino Record’s release includes “Different Drum,” “Heat Wave,” “It’s So Easy” and that amazing cover of “Desperado” by the Eagles.

And in rapid anticipation is Ronstadt’s second autobiography due out October 4 via Heyday Books. This one is titled Feels Like Home: A Song for the Sonoran Borderlands and tells of family, her history, traditions, music, and more. Her childhood and family roots in both Mexico and Arizona.

Linda Ronstadt has enjoyed a more than four-decade career, selling an astonishing feat of over 50 million albums, at least 31 gold and platinum records, 10 Grammy Awards, received the National Medal of Arts, and established her spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Linda’s group the Stone Poneys, formed in 1967 in California’s folk circuit, and after two albums she left to pursue her solo career. Hand Sow in 1969 and 1970s Silk Purse helped bolt California’s country rock movement, and released in 1971 her pivotal self-titled third solo album featured a group of session musicians that would later become the Eagles. It showed her more laid-back style of sort of country-rock, and included material from singer/songwriters like Jackson Browne and Neil Young.

It was her 1974 Heart Like a Wheel album platinum formula that rocketed Ronstadt into the stratosphere of musical success with hits like “You’re No Good,” “When Will I Be Loved,” and “It Doesn’t Matter Anymore.” She released hit albums like Prisoner in Disguise and Hasten Down the Wind in the late '70s.

1977’s massive hit was “Simple Dreams” which expanded her formula by adding more rock to it and included The Rolling Stones’ “Tumbling Dice” and Warren Zevon’s “Poor Pitiful Me.” It was this crooner’s biggest hit, staying on the charts for five weeks and selling over three million copies.

Linda Ronstadt went on to have a stellar career with “Living in the U.S.A.” in 1978 and 1982’s “Get Closer. The early '80s saw her go on to star on Broadway in Gilbert & Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance alongside Kevin Kline and Rex Smith.

Ronstadt closed out the 80s with a contemporary pop recording “Somewhere Out There” and then returned to her country rock roots recording her first trio album with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris. It was that same year that Linda recorded the aforementioned Library of Congress honored “Canciones de Mi Padre."
