Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott paid tribute to Paul McCartney for the legend's 80th birthday with a rendition of The Beatles' "I've Just Seen a Face.'
Def Leppard is currently on a stadium tour with Motley Crue, Poison and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. The band's latest album, Diamond Star Halos, is a tip of the hat to early-'70s glam rock with the title being a reference to a lyric in T. Rex's hit "Bang a Gong (Get it On)"
Elliott admits (watch below) that he was not entirely pleased with the outcome, however, and says in the YouTube series, "Behind The Stadium Tour," "I completely bollocked it up."
It's the thought that counts.
"I took it upon myself to try and play 'I Just Saw A Face' [sic] by The Beatles," says the singer, "and I completely bollocked it up. I couldn't remember the words. I forgot the chords. I wouldn't have passed the audition for America's Got Talent, put it that way. But I did get the entire audience to sing 'Happy Birthday' to Sir Paul McCartney, which was very special. Hopefully he'll see it on YouTube or something like that and he'll know that we were thinking about him, because he's a big part of our lives."
