Movie star Johnny Depp performed onstage with guitar idol Jeff Beck while awaiting a verdict in the trial vs. ex-wife Amber Heard.
The appearance took place only two days after jury deliberation in the civil trial with actress Heard, at Jeff Beck gig on June 29 at Sheffield City Hall. With Depp on vocals and rhythm guitar, the two performed several covers with Beck's backing band, including classics like Hendrix's "Little Wing," Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" and John Lennon's "Isolation."
The trial has been the subject of immense (and intense) media coverage. Everyone seems to be talking about it. However, more should talk about Depp's musical skills. Watch below at fan coverage of the concert via YouTube.
Depp always had close relationships with many well-known musicians, and had been a part of the recent Hollywood Vampires grouping of Alice Cooper and Joe Perry. But lately he has jammed quite a bit with Jeff Beck, releasing a downloadable single of "Isolation" (see below).
Which ultimately leads to the question: Will the friends be recording together again? Beck seems to hint at further collaborations.
“Johnny and I have been working on music together for a while now," Beck states on his website, "and we recorded this track during our time in the studio... We weren’t expecting to release it so soon but given all the hard days and true ‘isolation’ that people are going through in these challenging times, we decided now might be the right time to let you all hear it. You’ll be hearing more from Johnny and me in a little while but until then we hope you find some comfort and solidarity in our take on this Lennon classic.”
Johnny Depp added, “Jeff Beck and I recorded this song Isolation... as our take on a beautiful John Lennon tune. Lennon’s poetry – ‘We’re afraid of everyone. Afraid of the Sun!’ – seemed to Jeff and me especially profound right now, this song about isolation, fear, and existential risks to our world. So we wanted to give it to you, and hope it helps you make sense of the moment or just helps you pass the time as we endure isolation together.”
