Boxing up Philles Records
By Chris M. Junior
It’s going to be big — just like the legendary producer’s “Wall of Sound” that defined the hits released on the label he started with Lester Sill.
“Phil Spector Presents the Philles Album Collection” — featuring six Philles albums from 1962-64 never officially reissued in their entirety during the CD era, plus a CD of instrumental B-sides — arrives Oct. 18 from Phil Spector Records/Legacy.
The albums from 1962-64 are:
1. The Crystals — “The Crystals Twist Uptown”
2. The Crystals — “He’s a Rebel”
3. Bob B. Soxx and the Blue Jeans — “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah”
4. The Crystals — “The Crystals Sing the Greatest Hits, Volume I”
5. Various Artists — “Philles Records Presents Today’s Hits”
6. The Ronettes — “Presenting the Fabulous Ronettes Featuring Veronica”
The boxed set can be preordered now through www.philspector.com.
Also due on Oct. 18 is the two-disc “The Essential Phil Spector,” featuring songs by the aforementioned artists, as well as The Righteous Brothers, Darlene Love and Ike & Tina Turner.
