The up-and-coming Glasgow-based singer-songwriter Penny Black appeared on the STV program The Hour last week. Black performed her brilliant song “Green” on the show. The performance can be viewed at http://entertainment.stv.tv/music/208771-scottish-singer-penny-black-performs-new-song-green/.

Black has been the recipient of much critical praise. Rick Fulton of the UK newspaper The Daily Record wrote of Black:
“Breathtakingly stunning... She should do for pianos what KT Tunstall did for girls with guitars...The theatrics of the music coupled with the dark undertone of on-the-surface upbeat songs harks also to Freddie Mercury and Queen. An incredible beginning.”
Black is an extremely gifted songwriter and a talented performer. She recently performed in London and Manchester. I’ve heard quite a few of her songs and have been knocked out by her talent. In addition to “Green,” Black’s other standout compositions include “Peter Pan’s Biggest Fan,” “Find Me,” and “The Hopeful Song.” These songs and several others can be heard on her MySpace page. She is definitely a talent to keep your eyes on.
