by John Curley—The Rolling Stones have been doing a huge promotional push to spotlight the rerelease of their landmark 1972 album Exile On Main Street and the Stones In Exile documentary about the making of the album. (The trailer for the documentary can be viewed above.) Part of the promotions have been appearances on rock radio stations in the UK.
Keith Richards recently gave an informative phone interview to DJ Ian Camfield of XFM London. (Radio listeners in the New York City area might remember Ian Camfield from his stint several years ago as a DJ with the now-defunct NYC-based alternative rock station K-Rock.) To listen to Camfield’s chat with Richards, go to http://www.xfm.co.uk/news/2010/xfm-meets-keith-richards and click the “Listen to our interview with Keith Richards” link.
Mick Jagger has done a video interview with DJ Christian O’Connell of Absolute Radio in which he spoke at length about his feelings about Exile On Main Street. To watch the interview, go to http://www.absoluteradio.co.uk/player/The-Rolling-Stones/7921/Interview--Mick-Jagger.html. Jagger proves once again that he is one of the best, most articulate interview subjects in rock music.
Keith Richards also spoke with Absolute Radio, granting an interview to DJ Ben Jones. To hear the full interview, go to http://www.absoluteradio.co.uk/player/The-Rolling-Stones/7911/Keith-Richards-interview.html.
BBC Radio 2 aired a documentary earlier tonight (Wednesday, May 19th) about the recording of Exile On Main Street. Hosted by Paul Sexton and titled Exile Of The Stones, the documentary is 60 minutes in length. There are seven days left from today to listen to the documentary on demand on the BBC Radio 2 Web site before the program is removed from the Web site. To hear the documentary, go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00slw1v and click the “Listen now” audio link.
In addition to the radio appearances, the Stones also spoke to The Times of London regarding Exile On Main Street. The resulting article is a very good read. To check it out, go to http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/music/article7117242.ece.
The rerelease of Exile On Main Street hit the shops on Monday, May 17th in the Stones’ native UK and the following day in America.
