Legendary Manchester, England band The Stone Roses announced at a press conference at London’s Soho Hotel yesterday Tuesday, October 18th) that they will be reuniting in 2012 for two shows at Heaton Park in Manchester on June 29th and 30th. Tickets for the Heaton Park shows go on sale this Friday, October 21st. While no other dates were announced, a world tour is said to be in the offing.

The band’s best-known lineup will be performing the reunion shows. That lineup features Ian Brown on vocals, John Squire on guitar, Mani (Gary Mounfield) on bass, and Reni (Alan Wren) on drums. The Stone Roses’ best-known songs include “I Wanna Be Adored,” “Fools Gold,” and “I Am The Resurrection.” Since the band’s October 1996 breakup, Brown and Squire have pursued solo careers, Mani joined Primal Scream, and Reni has remained inactive musically for the most part.

Rumors of a reunion have been vehemently denied over the years. Brown and Squire did not speak for 15 years, a stalemate that was finally broken when the two met at the funeral of Mani’s mother earlier this year. The seeds of the reunion were sown at that time.
