Market Watch for October 2021
These were the top-selling records on eBay during the month of October 2021.
1. Tony Sheridan and the Beat Brothers
“My Bonnie” / “The Saints”
Decca 31382
Commercial copy, Pinckneyville pressing plant
Condition: VG+
Sold for: $14,900.00
Before they were famous, the Beatles recorded several songs in Germany for Polydor Records, backing up their friend and fellow Briton, Tony Sheridan. Through Deutsche Grammophon’s arrangement with Decca Records, the single came out in the USA and Canada on the Decca label. Commercial copies of the single are extremely rare – much harder to find than pink-label (promotional) copies. Only a few dozen are known to exist. It is no surprise that this copy tops the sales for October.
2. U2
The Joshua Tree
Island (Sweden) U26
Blue Vinyl
Condition: VG+/VG+
Sold for: $10,600.00
When the album was in its first run in the late 1980s, a pressing-plant employee pressed a copy of the album for themselves on blue vinyl. This was that record – now having a unique place among collectors.
3. ZHU
Dreamland 2021
Astralwerks (No number)
Test Pressing (#9 of 12)
Condition: Sealed/Locked
Sold for: $8,999.95
This was a special release of only twelve (12) copies on vinyl. Although it just came out (earlier in 2021), the scarcity of the item and the fact that it was personally autographed made it attractive to collectors.
4. Joy Division
An Ideal for Living
Enigma (UK) PSS-139
7” EP release
Condition: VG++/VG++
Sold for: $8,768.50
Joy Division was recording an album for RCA in May 1978 but were disappointed with it and decided not to release it. Instead, they put out this EP – based on sessions from December 1977. They pressed only 1000 copies on their own label, which record sold out almost immediately. This was the band’s first release, and for them it was a success.
5. The Fix
“Vengeance” / “In This Town”
Touch & Go 2
Original red label
Condition: VG+/VG+
Sold for: $7,877.00
The Michigan hardcore-punk band released only 200 copies of this single in March 1981. The record’s scarcity made it legendary, with over a dozen copies now having sold for over $3,000 each. This copy is the top seller so far.
