1. The Beatles

The Beatles

Apple SWBO-101

Condition: SS

Sold for: $7,200.00

A sealed original copy with a contents sticker on the cover. This copy was numbered A2200882. Much of the value is in the sticker, and of course, the fact that this record is still sealed.

2. Elvis Presley

“That’s All Right”/ “Blue Moon of Kentucky”

Sun 209

Condition: VG(+)

Sold for: $7,000.00

Of the seven label variations of the 45 RPM single that are known to exist so far, this one seems to be the most popular among collectors. It is the Memphis pressing with “209” written upside-down on the B-side label.

3. Olivia Newton-John and the Electric Light Orchestra

Xanadu

MCA MC-10384/L-2315

10-inch single, picture disc

Promotional Copy

Condition: M-

Sold for: $6,230.00

Although the movie was a worldwide failure, the music associated with the film was quite successful, prompting MCA to offer up a promotional picture disc in highly limited quantities. As is often the case with scarce items, there are rumors that MCA withdrew the disc, but enough copies have surfaced over the years that it may simply be a rare promotional item. Featuring the same image of Olivia that appears on the movie poster, this makes an attractive collectible.

4. The Beatles

Please Please Me

Parlophone (UK) PCS-3042

Condition: VG+/VG-

Dick James credits

With EMI price flyer

Sold for: $6,006.26

This, one of the few thousand stereo copies of the Beatles’ first album released in 1963, attracted quite a bit of attention when it came up for sale. There were 41 bids for this lot, coming from about 15 different bidders.

5. Don Rendell, Ian Carr

Shades of Blue

Columbia (U.K.) 33SX-1733

Condition: VG++/VG++

Autographed by Rendell

Sold for: $5,254.16

The autograph adds slightly to the value of this scarce original album of British Jazz. The recent reissue has helped attract attention to the original album, which has been selling in the $2,000 to $4,000 range for several years.
