STOCK: Between the two stores, which are located next to each other, you will find just about anything you seek. The main store stocks new releases of almost any musical style you could ask for — including that of local talent — on records, CDs, cassettes and 45s. At Grimey’s Too, you’ll find books, magazines, posters, T-shirts and the complete offerings of the used music department. The prices are fair, but nothing to get excited about.

STAFF: The staff is happy to help you out, and unlike a lot of independent stores, this store has enough staff that finding someone to help is an easy task. While I was there, I was able to watch several staff members interact with some of the locals. They seemed to really know the locals and talk about their music interests. If I lived in Nashville, I could see wanting to spend a lot of time here.

STORE: For the size of the store, it’s amazing how staffers can keep it clean. Well, clean, but a little clustered. Like other stores that are in an old house spaces, Grimey’s and Grimey’s Too both manage to do a lot with the space. Grimeys Too, which is home to all of the used items, also serves as a coffee shop and bookstore.

SELECTION: As one of the largest and most popular record stores in the middle of America, Grimey’s has a selection that deserves praise. This is a destination location record store. Long after most stores have sold their Record Store Day items, you can find some of the more desirable titles here. Before you pay outrageous prices on eBay to people who only buy these items to make a quick profit, call Grimey's and see if they have it.

SPECIAL MENTION: Every day is Record Store Day at Grimey’s.Live bands, giveaways and most of the RSD releases can be found on that day. But Grimeys also hosts live shows throughout the year. And when new releases come out, Grimeys usually gets the premium that is offered to early buyers.
