Backstage Auctionsis offering offers up decades of rare and one-of-a-kind rock and pop music memorabilia at its Spring 2008 Rock & Pop Auction, which ends April 13.
More than 100 artist-signed items, including a Fender Stratocaster guitar signed by Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jeff Beck are featured in the sale by the Houston auction house.
The Spring 2008 Rock & Pop Auction features the personal collection of Reggie Box, longtime radio industry professional.
Reggie’s passion for music started at an early age. Having witnessed the explosive rock scene of the late '60s and early '70s, he quickly acquired a passion for the music and the “movement” it created. Many gave credit to Reggie for his leadership in taking WKLT from a small signal station in Kalkaska, Mich., to a radio powerhouse that is
heard across all of northern Michigan.
Reggie was a sincere and passionate collector, and as WKLT’s station manager, he had the opportunity to meet many great artists as they came through town. Sadly, Reggie left the world of radio too soon. He died 1995 from non-Hodgkins lymphoma, and he left behind his amazing rock and pop memorabilia collection.
Among the more notable pieces being offered in the auction is a Fender Stratocaster guitar signed by Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jeff Beck following their performance at Cobo Arena in ’89.
“Admittedly, as a rock and roll memorabilia auctioneer, you have the privilege of being surrounded by decades of impressive mementos. On a daily basis we handle rare items, vintage collectibles and personal belongings. But when a Stevie Ray Vaughan/Jeff Beck signed Fender Stratocaster comes in, things start to slow down for a moment. After all, you don’t get to hold a magnificent guitar, signed by two of the all-time greatest guitar players, every day,” explains Jacques van Gool, founder of Backstage Auctions.
The Spring Rock & Pop Auction will offer more 300 auction lots showcasing memorabilia featuring The Beatles, Kinks, Rolling Stones, Mellencamp, Madonna, Nirvana and even Elvis — just to name a few.
“Whether you love rock, pop, grunge or punk we have a little bit of everything — vintage vinyl, guitars, posters, ephemera, photos, promotional items and of course classic t-shirts — it’s an awesome lineup that we are sure the fans and collectors will appreciate,” says van Gool.
The auction ends on Sunday, April 13, 2008. The full auction catalog is available online at www.backstageauctions.com.
