For the second year in a row, the Austin Record Convention will be a fall-only event.

The show, which has been held in Austin since 1981, previously had been held every April and October. In 2007, the spring convention was scratched due to renovation efforts at the Crockett Event Center.

“We will go back to two shows in 2009, but for this year, it will be one show,” said show promoter Douglas Hanners.

A variety of factors, including some medical issues, played into the decision to offer only one show in 2008, Hanners said.

“The main one is business; one show a year gives buyers and sellers more time to gather up worthwhile merchandise and plan ahead,” Hanners said. “As we saw with our solo event in 2007, one show brings many more dealers and buyers to the show, making it a much more profitable occasion for all concerned.”

Hanners said the Fall 2007 show was one of the biggest ever. A “very large” number of overseas visitors, who he said typically tend to be the show’s biggest spenders, were in attendance at the Fall 2007 event, he said.

The next Austin Record Convention is slated for Oct. 3-5 at the Crockett Event Center. For more information, visit
