Fashion designer John Varvatos’ menswear boutique has opened in the former home of CBGB. Flyers from the 1970s are preserved behind glass on one wall, and the stage has been replaced by a tailoring shop encased with gold Alice Cooper records. CBGB closed in October 2006… A jazz collection that, before Hurricane Katrina, was housed in the Old U.S. Mint in New Orleans will be overhauled, updated, and in about two years, moved back into its historic French Quarter home…


U2 guitarist The Edge will donate two Gibson guitars and other items from his personal collection to the “Icons of Music” auction to benefit Music Rising. The May 31 sale, hosted by Julien’s Auctions, features guitars played by Kurt Cobain, Slash and Johnny Cash; a trumpet played by Miles Davis; and handwritten notes by Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney and Janis Joplin...

Sony BMG is joining Universal Music Group in allowing users of select Nokia mobile phones access to its entire music catalog later this year as part of Nokia’s “Comes With Music” program… Fontana, the independent distribution division of Universal Music Group, and have teamed up. AudioStreet will provide Fontana news, music, tour info and artist content at its Web site. Labels distributed by Fontana include Vagrant Records, Telarc, VP Records, American Gramaphone, Quango, Mad Science Recordings, Six Degrees, Angeles Records, Nitro, SMC, Upstairs Records, Warcon, Rendezvous, Big Vin, Delicious Vinyl and IpecacClive Davis has been replaced by Barry Weiss as chairman and chief executive officer of the BMG label group; Davis will become Sony BMG’s chief creative officer…
