The “Gnomeo & Juliet” soundtrack, featuring new and classic Elton John songs, will be released Feb. 8 on Buena Vista Records.

Like the John hits that are included on the album, his two new recordings, “Hello Hello” and “Love Builds a Garden,” were written with Bernie Taupin.

“He writes the lyrics and I write the melody, and I like it that way,” John said in a press release issued Jan. 25. “The film is a big love story and very funny.”

As for writing the new songs for the film, Taupin said, “I had to re-evaluate myself with any pop sensibilities still lurking in my decidedly un-pop brain. Cue some old Beatles circa 'Magical Mystery Tour' and voila, that sounded like a good starting point.”

The soundtrack also includes “Bennie and the Jets,” “Tiny Dancer” and “Your Song,” among other John classics, plus a duet version of “Crocodile Rock” with Nelly Furtado as well as selections from James Newton Howard and Chris Bacon.

The animated Touchstone Pictures film, featuring the voices of Ozzy Osbourne, Dolly Parton and others, is due in theaters Feb. 11.
